Rick Rensing from Lichtenvoorde has been employed by HFI since September 2013 as a setter in the long turning department. Before Rick started working at HFI, he worked as a miller and turner in Varsseveld. In search of a new challenge, he ended up at HFI through a colleague. That turned out to be a bull’s eye, both men still work at HFI 12 years later.
It was clear from an early age that Rick would go into technology and so he opted for a training in machining. “I have always worked in machining, mainly as a CNC turner. I also worked with milling for a year or two, but turning is really my profession”, says Rick.
Rick worked as a setter of the Nakamuras for the first 9 years of his career at HFI. He has been working in the long turning department for 2.5 years. Rick: “The big difference is that long turning really requires a different way of thinking. It is small and fine work and it goes much faster. On a long turner you have multiple axes, which means that the possibilities for processing your product are more extensive. Checking the parts, monitoring the machine and the chisels and the dimensions of the products are also part of my job.” Long turning at HFI is a broad job and that is what makes the work fun and challenging for Rick. He learned long turning at HFI and programming is now also increasingly becoming part of Rick’s job description.
Working for HFI more than 12 years definitely shows that Rick is in the right place. “HFI is a nice company to work for, we have a friendly team and there is a good atmosphere among us. You can ask any question you have and everyone is willing to help each other. Consultation is always possible here”, says Rick.
In high school, Rick sometimes thought about becoming a chef. However, the working hours were the deciding factor and so it became a job in technology. In his spare time, Rick still regularly prepares dinner and his technical insight also comes in handy after work. He likes to brew his own beer with friends and when the installation fails, the men’s technical background naturally comes in handy.
